3 Different Body Types

3 Different Body Types

Different people have different body types. It is important to know which type of body you have, especially when you want to lose weight or build muscle. Different body types require different diet plans and training methods. There are three different body types: Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph. Each body type has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Ectomorph

The ectomorph is typically skinny and lean, usually taller with long limbs and thin muscles. They have a very fast metabolism, which means they burn calories quickly and, as result, lose weight relatively fast. Ectomorph finds it very hard to gain weight and build muscle. This type needs more time to recover and has a limited capacity for stress.

To gain muscle mass as an ectomorph, keep the cardio workouts short and focus on heavy resistance training. Since you have a fast metabolic rate, you should eat more often and increase your protein intake. You also need more rest inside and outside of the gym to recover adequately.

Features of an Ectomorph:

Lean
Flat chest
Skinny waist
Narrow shoulders
Long arms and legs
Very fast metabolism
Hypersensitive nervous system
Finds it hard to gain weight
Physically weak

Mesomorph

The mesomorph is naturally muscular and very athletic. The mesomorph is somewhere between the round endomorph and the thin ectomorph. This body type has well-defined muscles, wide shoulders and a thin waist. A mesomorph can easily gain or lose weight and they are naturally strong. This type is genetically gifted in terms of muscle building capabilities and body aesthetics.

Features of an Mesomorph:

Muscular frame
Wide shoulders
Thin waist
Strong
Responds quickly to exercise
Low body fat
Easily gains muscle
Efficient metabolism

Endomorph

The endomorph is someone who has a heavy build, rounded shape, a tendency to gain weight. Endomorphs have a larger bone structure and high body fat percentage. They also have a slow metabolism which makes fat loss very difficult. Their muscles are very strong, especially the upper legs. Endomorphs can easily gain muscle mass, but at the same time it can be covered with a layer of fat.

Being an endomorph you have to watch your diet and do lots of cardio. Endomorphs are sensitive to carbohydrates. So you should avoid simple carbohydrates whenever possible, especially refined sugar. Most of your carbohydrates should come from fruits and vegetables.
Features of an Endomorph:
Soft and rounded body
Naturally strong
Large muscles
Easily gains muscle
Responds quickly to exercise
Slow metabolism
High levels of body fat
Loses weight slowly
Sensitive to carbohydrates
A Combination of Body Types

It is important to understand that these body types are just general guidelines. Most people are unique combinations of three body types and don't fit into just one classification. Experts believe that many people are a combination of body types, such as ecto-mesomorphs or endo-mesomorphs. For example, you can have wide shoulders and very fast metabolism.
