Royal Tiaras and the Stories Behind Them 13/14

The Dutch royal family is proud of its collection of jewels, but it was the antique pearl tiara that was chosen to be the first tiara for Queen Maxima.

This tiara was designed in 1900 and mimics the shape of the crown worn by Anna Pavlovna, the queen consort of Willem II of the Netherlands. The diamonds in Maxima’s tiara date back to the 17th century. The tiara has been worn by all Dutch queens since Queen Wilhelmine.
