Yes, people world over will be able to watch New Year Eve (NYE) fireworks in Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, and Downtown Dubai live on television and internet, but there is one more way of having your own space in “The Centre of Now.”

Those not intending to stand among the masses to watch the fireworks show, or spend thousands of dirhams in a Downtown neighbourhood hotel, the cheapest way to party in the area is to rent an apartment for a day.

Local real estate agents are offering one- and two-bedroom apartments with Burj Khalifa view for rates, starting as low as Dh750 a day.

“The apartment with Burj Khalifa view is situated 0.5 miles from Dubai Mall. Besides, you can watch the world famous dancing fountains and the tallest tower from the terrace which makes it even more attractive,” states one advert on a local property portal, which is asking for rent of Dh750 for a day.

Another company has advertised a 1,200 square feet two-bed apartment for Dh1,100 a day. In fact, the minimum charge by a star-rated hotel with a Burj Khalifa view is Dh750 a person.

In March 2015, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Dubai, told Emirates 24|7, that those renting an apartment as a holiday home without a license will be fined Dh5,000. Besides, the Department of Economic Development has said short-term residential letting is illegal without a license.

Emaar to live stream NYE gala

In a press statement, Emaar Properties said Downtown Dubai New Year’s Eve Gala will have clearly defined themed-acts, each highlighting an inspiring facet of Dubai with the NYE gala will be a futuristic celebration of the city, underlining its 2020 vision, while paying rich tribute to the UAE and its achievements.

Live-streaming of the event will be at www.mydowntowndubai.com with live telecast as well on local TV channels.

“The crowning glory of the event and visual-masterpiece of Burj Khalifa will see displays in creative patterns and styles. The fireworks and light displays will be presented in multiple hues and forms, each narrating a story that will resonate with Dubai residents and the global community,” the developer said.

Visitors to Downtown Dubai can watch the spectacle from specially allocated viewing points in Burj Park and Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. They are requested to arrive before 6 pm and take public transport to arrive at the venue, while Roads & Transport Authority plans to extend the operational hours of the Dubai Metro for their convenience.
