Sinigang Na Bangus

No wonder bangus was named as the country’s national fish. It’s one delicious fish that can be cooked and prepared in so many ways. This time, we’ll prepare this one popular bangus dish that many of us love. Sinigang na Bangus comes in many versions. This one has taro and banana blossoms added.

Here’s how to cook Sinigang na Bangus:

Ingredients:

2 pcs. medium sized Bangus (Milkfish)

1 pc. Banana Blossom (Puso ng Saging)

1 medium sized Radish

9 String Beans

6 pcs. Okra

1 medium sized Taro

2 small sized Eggplant

1 medium sized Onion

2 pcs. Tomatoes

40g Tamarind Powder

Kangkong

Calamansi

Salt

Pepper

Oil

Process:

Prepare Banana Blossom (Puso ng Saging)

1. Rub some calamansi on the chopping board and squeeze some juice in a bowl of water with salt. This will avoid discoloration and remove its bitter taste.

2. Peel off the old and dark outer bracts until you reach the center part which is lighter and paler. Cut the stem and divide the blossom into four parts vertically. Remove the stem and start removing the florets. (see video on how to do it). Soak in the bowl of water with salt and calamansi extract. Set aside.

Cooking Process:

1. Boil a good amount of water in a pot. Put some sliced tomatoes and red onions.

2. Once it starts boiling, add in the taro and sliced banana blossoms. Cover and let boil for about 5 minutes.

3. Put in the bangus. Cover and let cook for about 3 minutes. Then season with salt and pepper.

4. Add in the radish, string beans and okra. Cover and let cook for about 2 minutes.

5. Add in the eggplant and the tamarind powder. Let cook for about a minute.

6. Add the kangkong. Cover for a minute.

Ready and Serve!

Note:

This is one of my favorite bangus dish. And I would love to share it. By the way, you can also add “siling haba” to add more kick. Since I just can’t find sili when I went to the supermarket when and got no time to go to another store, so I wasn’t able to add one.

Also when preparing the eggplant, slice it when you are about to put it in or it will start to discolor.
