“The most common snacking mistakes people make is that they don’t pay attention to portion sizes, eat straight out of the bag, and think they can eat as much as they want of healthy foods,” Lisa R. Young, PhD, RD, adjunct professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University and author of The Portion Teller, tells Yahoo Health. “The ideal snack provides protein or healthy fat and fiber.” And remember: These mini-meals should stay under 200 to 300 calories.
