CONG. LEANDRO LEVISTE MAY NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION TO CONGRESS IN 2028?
A potentially major political decision could be one to watch ahead of the 2028 elections. According to a statement reported in the video, Cong. Leandro Leviste has reportedly not yet finalized his plans for the next elections—and one possibility is that he may no longer seek re-election to Congress.
Leviste is a prominent political figure and businessman associated with Batangas politics. Based on a statement attributed to Atty. Barry Gutierrez, Leviste’s political direction for 2028 has not yet been finalized.
That is why it is important to emphasize: this remains only a possibility and is not yet an official declaration that he is leaving politics or will definitely not run again.
If Leviste chooses not to seek another term in Congress, the decision could affect the political landscape of his district and the broader contest for elective positions in 2028. It could open opportunities for other candidates, lead to new political alliances, or signal a different direction for Leviste himself.
Several important questions also arise: Will he remain in public service? Could he pursue a different political role? Or will he focus more on business and other projects? For now, the public will have to wait for his official decision.
In my view, political speculation should not immediately be treated as final—especially with the 2028 elections still some distance away. In politics, alliances, priorities, public sentiment, and personal decisions can change quickly. What matters most is clearly distinguishing a confirmed announcement from a possible scenario.
If Leviste ultimately decides not to run again for Congress, it will be interesting to see who steps into the political space he may leave behind and how that could reshape the balance of power in Batangas. But until there is a direct and final announcement, the more responsible wording remains: “possible, but not yet confirmed.”
The 2028 elections may still be some time away, but potential political moves and new alignments are already beginning to take shape. We will continue to watch for an official statement and further developments.
