Lasting Weight Loss

We start with all the enthusiasm and motivation in the world, and then get discouraged when we feel the soreness from our first workout. What are the obstacles preventing you from losing weight?

Set your weight loss goals before you do anything else! Are you looking for significant weight loss, or are you looking just to tone your body? Is there a weight or size goal that would make you happy? Or are you simply looking to just add muscle? Figure out what you want to achieve and then determine how long it will take.

Charting your progress can be a great way to remind yourself of the results you’re getting, and stay motivated. You should keep a journal of all the food you eat. Add up the amount of calories you ingest each day to see if you are within your recommended totals. Record your weekly weight in the same journal. Graphs help motivate because they give you a visual of what is happening to your body.

It is too late to make a decision about what to eat once you are already hungry. If you wait until you’re excessively hungry, you’re more likely to make unhealthy eating choices, to eat impulsively, or to overeat. To avoid making poor choices in foods, prepare meals in advance, and keep healthy snacks around. Bring your lunch instead of going out to eat. Not only will this help you slim down, it will also save you some cash.

If losing weight is really important to you, then you need to focus on both diet and activity. Pick an activity you love and include it as part of your exercise routine. Whether you join a sports team, sign up for some dance lessons, or find ways to work out with friends, it’s important to keep your workouts entertaining. Make sure you are creative with your exercise endeavors.

If you want to avoid the junk food, simply don’t make it available. If at all possible, eliminate junk food from your home. If your cupboards and refrigerator are stocked with healthy food choices that are easily accessible, you increase your chances of eating these foods for snacks and meals.

Even though you are the only person who can lose weight for yourself, having a supportive group of people in your life can be helpful. The support of others is crucial for keeping you motivated. Ask others for help reaching your weight loss goals when you need it.
