Alex Eala Drops to No. 49 After Miami Points Expire — Comeback Chance in Miami Open 2026

Eala Drops to No. 49 After Miami Points Expire — Comeback Chance in Miami Open 2026

Filipino tennis star Alex Eala falls to No. 49 in the WTA live rankings after 390 points from last year’s Miami Open expired, reducing her total from 1,525 to 1,145 points. The drop was not due to a loss, but because WTA ranking points only last 52 weeks before they are replaced by new results.

Seeded 31st in this year’s Miami Open, Eala received a first-round bye and gained 10 points for reaching the Round of 64, but it was not enough to offset the large points she lost.

The good news:

She still has a big chance to climb again. A strong run in Miami Open 2026 could quickly bring her back to the Top 30, close to her career-high ranking of No. 29.

This is part of the normal ranking cycle in the WTA Tour — and the season is far from over.

Time for another comeback.
