Marcos Orders Free Calls for OFWs in the Middle East Amid Rising Tensions

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has directed major telecom companies in the Philippines to provide FREE calls, text messages, and mobile data for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Middle East.
The initiative aims to help Filipinos stay connected with their families as regional tensions continue to raise concerns across several countries in the region.
Officials say the program is meant to give comfort and reassurance to millions of Filipino workers who may be worried about the safety of their loved ones back home.
However, many OFWs point out that internet access in countries like the UAE is already fast and stable. For them, what matters most during crises is clear government support, safety plans, and assistance if evacuation or repatriation becomes necessary.
Still, the move is seen as a gesture to ensure that Filipino workers can communicate freely with their families during uncertain times.
What do you think about this initiative?
