Gluttony vs. Being Overweight

Gluttony is defined as excessive eating and overindulgence.

Proverbs 23:20-21 warns, “Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.”

This verse shows that overeating and overdrinking can lead to negative consequences. However, not everyone who is overweight eats excessively.

Many factors can contribute to a person’s weight, including genetics, medical conditions, stress, and life circumstances.

Instead of judging others, the Bible encourages self-examination and kindness.

Romans 14:3 says, “The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.”

This means that food choices and body size should not be reasons for judgment.

God looks at the heart, not just the outward appearance.

The Importance of Self-Control

While being overweight is not a sin, the Bible does emphasize self-control.

Galatians 5:22-23 lists self-control as one of the fruits of the Spirit.

Philippians 4:5 says, “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

Does God Care About Appearance?

1 Timothy 4:8 says, “For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

This verse acknowledges that physical health has benefits, but it also reminds us that spiritual health is even more important.

A healthy lifestyle is good, but it should not become an idol.

Our identity should be rooted in Christ, not in a number on a scale.

Finding Confidence in God’s Love

Many people struggle with body image and self-worth.

The good news is that our value is not based on what we weigh, but on the fact that we are loved by God.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Each person is created by God with care and purpose.

Weight does not change God’s love for us.

Should Christians Diet?

Many Christians wonder if it is okay to go on a diet.

There is nothing wrong with making healthier choices, but the Bible encourages balance rather than extremes.

Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, “That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”

Food is a blessing, not something to fear.

If someone chooses to diet, it should be done in a way that is sustainable and healthy, not in a way that leads to guilt or frustration.

Whatever we do, it should be done with a heart that seeks to honor God.

Encouraging Others Instead of Judging

Christians are called to build one another up, not tear each other down.

Ephesians 4:29 says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Shaming others for their weight does not reflect God’s love.

Instead, we should encourage each other in kindness, supporting one another in both physical and spiritual health.

Jesus spent time with all kinds of people and showed love to everyone, regardless of their appearance.

As His followers, we should do the same.

Balancing Health and Enjoying Life

The Bible does not demand perfection when it comes to eating or body size.

It teaches balance.

Proverbs 25:16 says, “If you find honey, eat just enough—too much of it, and you will vomit.”

This verse highlights moderation.

It is okay to enjoy food, but overindulgence can lead to problems.

Likewise, completely avoiding enjoyable foods out of fear can also be unhealthy.

A balanced approach—one that includes nourishment, enjoyment, and gratitude—is the best way to care for the body while still honoring God.

Final Thoughts

The Bible does not condemn being overweight, nor does it say that body size determines a person’s worth.

God cares about the heart far more than physical appearance.

While the Bible encourages self-control and healthy living, it also reminds us that our identity is found in Christ, not in a number on a scale.

Instead of focusing on weight alone, believers should strive for a lifestyle that honors God in all areas—spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Whether a person is thin, heavy, or somewhere in between, God’s love remains the same.

What was more surprising was the fact that the fake punch was close to Floyd’s chin, which would have made him chicken out. And considering Tyson’s strength and size, he would have stunned Mayweather with his punch.

Surprisingly, Mayweather did not show he was scared, and even if he was, he did a good job of concealing it. Rather, a smile lit up Mayweather’s face, and he and Tyson enveloped in a warm hug.



Several specialists shared their views on Tyson’s stimulated punch, and they marveled at Floyd Mayweather’s undeterred response. Some of them also mentioned that owing to Mike’s track record of being volatile;

Hollywood star Johnny Depp, who was dropped from future Pirates of the Caribbean films following ex-wife Amber Heard's op-ed, still seems to hold fancy of the franchise's long-time producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

According to Fox News, a USA-based news outlet, during a recently published interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer was asked if Depp was "somebody a studio like Disney would put front and centre again in a Pirates sequel?"

The outlet reported that he responded by saying, "You'd have to ask them. I can't answer that question. I really don't know. I would love to have him in the movie. He's a friend, a terrific actor, and it's unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do."


Depp and Heard's defamation trial against each other concluded in June 2022, when a jury found both celebrities liable for defamation but awarded Depp more than USD8 million in damages.

The court fight started in 2018 when Depp sued Heard for defamation because of an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post claiming to be a victim of domestic abuse.

He alleged the op-ed damaged his reputation and cost him a significant amount of income and potential movie roles.

Further, Pirates of the Caribbean was not the only franchise from which the actor was dropped, as Warner Bros also removed him from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise following the op-ed.

Hollywood actor Henry Cavill has confirmed that he will no longer be returning to his role as Superman. 

The announcement came after his meeting with DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of guard is something that happens, I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes,” Cavill wrote.

He also shared a message to his fans and followers who may be saddened by the news of him not returning as Superman.

“For those who have been by my side through the years…..we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards,” Cavill added.

Cavill said that he will be reprising his superhero role last October 24. 

Cavill first took on the role as Superman in 2013 film “Man of Steel.”

France forward Kylian Mbappe put in a performance for the ages in the World Cup final against Argentina, but it proved bitter-sweet as he left the game heartbroken, a hat-trick not enough to avoid defeat against Argentina who prevailed in a shootout.

Mbappe became the second player to score three times in a World Cup final as he dragged his team back from the brink of defeat twice, first with two goals late in the second half.

Having been shut down by Argentina's defence for the majority of the contest, he exploded into life in the 80th minute, scoring two goals 97 seconds apart before grabbing another equaliser with a penalty in extra time to make it 3-3.

He also converted France's first penalty in the shootout, only to see keeper Emiliano Martinez save Kingsley Coman's shot and Aurelien Tchouameni fire wide. That gave Argentina a 4-2 shootout win and their first world title since 1986.

England's Geoff Hurst was the first player to score three goals in a final when they beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time in 1966 and he was glad to see another player finally join him on the list.

"Many congratulations to Mbappe, whatever happens. I've had a great run," Hurst tweeted as the game unfolded.

Lionel Messi won the Golden Ball for the best player at this year's World Cup after leading Argentina to victory in the final against France.

Messi scored twice in the final in Doha, taking his tally of goals at the tournament to seven, and also scored in the shoot-out as Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 draw after extra time.

Sunday's three goals helped Mbappe pip Lionel Messi to the World Cup Golden Boot, top goalscorer with eight goals in seven matches - the most any player has scored in a World Cup since Brazil phenomenon Ronaldo also scored eight in 2002.

However, Mbappe was well short of compatriot Just Fontaine who holds the record with 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

But despite his young age, Mbappe is only four goals away from German striker Miroslav Klose's record haul of 16.

Just two days shy of turning 24, Mbappe has already played in two World Cup finals and looks destined to lead a young and bright generation of French players for many years to come.

But at Qatar's Lusail Stadium, the night belonged to his Paris St Germain team mate Lionel Messi, whose heart Mbappe helped to break four years ago in Russia when France knocked out Argentina 4-3 to win in another epic match in the last 16.

Mbappe was only 19 then and it is mind-blowing to think that his peak is still ahead of him.

Every match he seems more confident, more poised, more in control, more unstoppable with his jet-heel speed and pin-point accuracy - terrifying even the best defenders.

French President Emmanuel Macron went down to the pitch to comfort the disconsolate young superstar who is already a national treasure, giving him a long hug.

Mbappe's hat-trick at the end of his outstanding tournament will not erase the pain of losing to Argentina, but in time he will surely look back with pride.

"I'm sad for Kylian, who had a more than perfect game," said Paris St Germain president President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

"If it had been me, I would have given two cups - one for Kylian, one for Leo. He (Messi) deserves it and Kylian still has years to win a World Cup again."

It may have been Messi's night. But unlike him, Mbappe has much of his career yet to come

Surprisingly, Mayweather did not show he was scared, and even if he was, he did a good job of concealing it. Rather, a smile lit up Mayweather’s face, and he and Tyson enveloped in a warm hug.



Several specialists shared their views on Tyson’s stimulated punch, and they marveled at Floyd Mayweather’s undeterred response. Some of them also mentioned that owing to Mike’s track record of being volatile;

they would not have maintained a calm composure like Mayweather. After Tyson’s stimulated punch, the look on his face gave the impression that he acted almost overboard. So, even though he did it just for fun, it did not seem to go down well with him because several people were watching.
